The construction industry is the second-largest economic ecosystem in the European Union, providing employment to approximately 25 million people. While it has the potential to significantly contribute to the European Green Deal and Digital Decade, it also faces various challenges. These include the Covid-19 pandemic aftermath, the Russian invasion of Ukraine, climate change, rapid digital transformation, and the shift towards a circular economy. The European Commission has developed a “Transition Pathway for Construction,” which outlines actions to support the development of safer buildings and affordable housing for Europeans.

Against this backdrop, the European Cluster Collaboration Platform, on behalf of the European Commission, DG GROW, will host the EU Clusters Talk “Transition Pathway for Construction: How to Green and Digitalise the Ecosystem” on May 3rd, 2023, from 8:30 to 9:45 CET. The event aims to discuss the Transition Pathway, the challenges facing the construction industry’s twin transition, and the role of clusters in supporting the transition.

Speakers will include:

  • Ilektra Papadaki, Team Coordinator, DG Internal Market, Industry, Entrepreneurship and SMEs (GROW), European Commission;
  • Rodica Lupu, Technology Enabled Construction Cluster – TEC;
  • Zoi Boutopoulou, Intelligent Solutions for Zero & Positive Energy Buildings;
  • Pablo Saiz, Chief Architecture Officer, WOODEA;
  • Victor Ferreira, President, Sustainable Habitat Cluster.
