Introduction: The online meeting “Professionals4Ukraine” was held last Thursday to foster cooperation between the Ukrainian Cluster Alliance and international ambassadors to support Ukraine’s recovery and development during the ongoing war. The meeting aimed to build on the momentum generated by previous Professionals4Ukraine events and identify concrete initiatives and partnerships to drive economic growth and professional development in Ukraine.

Participants: The meeting was attended by a diverse group of participants, overall more than 20, including representatives from the Ukrainian Cluster Alliance, international ambassadors, professionals from various industries, and members of non-governmental organizations dedicated to supporting Ukraine’s recovery.

Agenda of Professionals4Ukraine online meeting::

  1. Welcome and Introduction: The meeting began with warm welcome remarks from Alexander Yurchak, expressing gratitude to all participants for their dedication to the cause of supporting Ukraine during these challenging times. Alexander provided a brief recap of the key highlights and outcomes of the previous Professionals4Ukraine events to set the context for the discussions.
  2. Evolution of the Program: The initiative started a year ago under the name “Ambassador for Ukraine.” However, to pursue progress and better reflect the initiative’s objectives, the name was changed to “Professionals for Ukraine.” This alteration aimed to emphasize the personal role and dedication of the ambassadors rather than solely the organization’s brand.
  3. Current Situation in Ukraine:  Alexander Yurchak, CEO of the Ukrainian Cluster Alliance, presented a comprehensive overview of Ukraine’s current economic and professional landscape amid the ongoing war. Recent RecoveryProgram: The Ukrainian government has presented a new recovery program, marking the country’s third wave of initiatives. This program comes as a response to the ongoing challenges posed by the war and aims to revitalize and strengthen various sectors of the economy.
  4. International Ambassadors’ Perspectives: International ambassadors shared their valuable insights and observations about the potential areas of cooperation and support for Ukraine’s recovery. They emphasized the importance of collaboration between international organizations and partners in facilitating economic growth and resilience in the country. Here are some of those initiatives that were discussed online. You can access the complete discussion here.
    1. Overcoming Challenges Through Collaboration: A significant example of the impact of the International Ambassadors’ involvement was seen during a big Polish delegation’s visit to Ukraine. Despite the difficulties caused by the war and travel restrictions, the ambassadors, including Andrzej Czulak, showed their unwavering support by coming to Ukraine and participating in a conference on sustainable regional development. This event facilitated business discussions and provided crucial moral support, reinforcing the importance of human connections during trying times.
    2. Supporting Operational Activity: International Ambassadors, like Alex Chausovsky, have been instrumental in supporting the operational activities of the Ukrainian Cluster Alliance. Alex and Luigi De Bernardini proposed a new sponsorship mechanism for APPAU, attracting several new members through financial contributions. This financial support has strengthened the community and enabled the expansion of various initiatives, such as creating the photonics community, focusing on different photonic applications.
    3. Contributions to Diverse Initiatives: The involvement of Mike Richardson, an ambassador with a diverse background, has significantly impacted various areas in Ukraine. He has contributed to launching the new cluster initiative in photonics, which is rapidly growing in the country. Additionally, Mike played an essential role in initiatives related to dual-use applications and healthcare. His dedication and frequent visits to Ukraine have strengthened the initiatives he has been involved in and has created new opportunities for collaboration. One more initiative for Ukraine-Taiwan cooperation in innovation has been launched recently.
    4. Tristan Evans: Strengthening International Trade and Investment: In addition to the remarkable efforts of the International Ambassadors, Tristan Evans, the GR Director at the International Trade Council, has been an instrumental figure in promoting trade and investment with Ukraine. Last year, he organized a highly successful conference in Istanbul dedicated to attracting foreign investment and fostering international trade with Ukraine. The event served as a platform to showcase Ukraine’s potential as an investment destination. Tristan’s dedication did not end with the conference. He continued to support Ukraine by bringing several delegations of foreign investors to the country, facilitating meaningful meetings and engagements. Recently, he authored a book on approaching foreign direct investment in Ukraine during the post-war period, providing valuable insights to potential investors and further advocating for the country’s growth.
    5. Daniel Cosnita, President of the Romanian Cluster Association: Daniel expressed his honor to participate in the meeting and highlighted the strong geographic neighborhood between Romania and Ukraine. Throughout the unfortunate war, the Romanian Cluster Association has supported Ukraine in various ways. They have organized joint events, facilitated business contacts for Ukrainian companies seeking refuge in Romania, and facilitated knowledge exchange between Ukrainian and Romanian cluster managers. Daniel assured the group of their continuous support and willingness to help in any way possible with their knowledge and contacts.
    6. Antonio de Novo, President of the European Cluster Alliance: Antonio emphasized the long-standing support of the European Cluster Alliance for Ukraine. He assured the group that they could always count on their support, which has existed since the beginning of the full-scale invasion. Antonio expressed his excitement to be part of this collaborative group and looks forward to engaging in future activities.
    7. Anastasiia Konstantynova: As a Ukrainian professional in the Netherlands, Anastasiia works for Technopolis, a consulting company specializing in science, technology, research, and analysis. Anastasiia shared that the Netherlands has identified three priority areas for cooperation with Ukraine: health clusters, agriculture, and green sectors. In light of these priorities, participants agreed on the need to explore targeted instruments and opportunities to enhance collaboration and impact.
  5. Identifying Collaborative Opportunities: An interactive discussion ensued, focusing on specific projects and initiatives that the Ukrainian Cluster Alliance and international partners could jointly undertake. Participants explored possibilities for implementing skill development programs, mentorship opportunities, and investments in critical sectors contributing to sustainable development.
  6. Strengthening Professional Networks: Strategies were discussed to enhance networking opportunities between Ukrainian professionals and international experts. Participants identified various platforms and events that could facilitate regular knowledge exchange and collaboration to leverage expertise effectively. The Ukrainian side will use new digital instruments to manage this initiative.

Conclusion:

The Professionals4Ukraine online meeting was a pivotal platform for establishing meaningful collaborations between the Ukrainian Cluster Alliance and international ambassadors. The participants exhibited a strong commitment to supporting Ukraine’s recovery and development during the ongoing war, and the meeting generated optimism and project ideas for a brighter future through joint efforts and cooperation.
